Frankly,
I needed a filing cabinet for my shop office, but I just could not
bring myself to build a simple box with drawers. Taking a cue from my Chest
sans Sides, I
designed and built a pair of these filing cabinets, which also have no
sides! The drawer
sides do double duty as the chest sides, highlighting the dovetail
joinery. The legs, laminated of oak and cherry, have dramatic sweeps
and house rails which hide the full extension mechanisms for the file
drawers. The cherry drawer fronts have a slight curve from top to
bottom, while the cherry drawer backs are flat. The drawer bottoms and
divider panels are of red cedar, while the panel frames are
sycamore. The greenish hue of drawer sides of tulip poplar will
gently age to a nice light brown color.
